Beavers
An awards evening was held on 8th April for the presentation of recently achieved badges, including 14 ‘Imagination’ badges. The Beavers are all now working towards their ‘Promise’ badge.
We would like to welcome two new Beavers to the group, Edmund Hinsin and Jessica Reynolds.
The planned sponsored Bure Valley walk for Beavers and Families from Buxton to Wroxham unfortunately had to be postponed due to bad weather, but will now take place on Sunday, 20th April. This will enable Beavers taking part to achieve their ‘Hiking’ stage 1 badge. All funds raised are being donated towards the new hut fund!
Cubs
Cub nights have been quite busy over the last couple of weeks with the investitures of Ryan Billman, Oliver Coe and Jack Carpenter, mixing up the colour parties, new sixers and seconders etc. Many of the Cubs managed to achieve three stages on the First Aid Response with the St. John’s Ambulance. Well done to all those who could make it!
During April the Cubs will be attempting to cook and if the food is edible they will achieve their ‘Chefs’ Badge.
Finally, many of us are excited about abseiling off Roughton Mill. We’ll be doing this on April 21st (weather permitting).
Scouts
Daniel Murphy and Callum Hall have recently been invested into Scouts. With several Scouts coming to an end with their time at Buxton and moving onto Explorer Scouts at Turbine, Roughton, there has been much reorganisation amongst the patrols.
The next project for the Scouts is to set out fire pits and cooking areas at the new scout ground, where a full programme of activity and possible camp is being organised for the summer period.
The Scouts are also making preparations for their annual visit to
the ever-popular Decoy Broad Water Activities Weekend on 23rd May for 3 nights.

New Scout Hut
During the winter months the fencing has been erected, hedging planted, gates ordered and to be fitted this month. Thanks to the volunteers who have achieved this. The ground is now available to be used by the group with phase 1 completed. We now progress to phase 2 and the new scout hut, for which initial plans have just been completed for further consultation.
New Appointments
Colin Philips, former scout leader with 1st Buxton Lamas Sea Scout Group has recently been appointed District Commissioner.
Immediate Vacancy
After many years of conscientious commitment, we unfortunately have to announce that Judy Ellis is standing down from her role as Treasurer at the next AGM. We therefore have a vacancy to fill now so that she could be shadowed in the role before finishing at the AGM. Contact Judy for further info on (01263) 734912.
Paper Collection Rota
The newspaper collection service carried out around Buxton once a month provides the group with
valuable finance. Volunteers nominate one day per year on which to enjoy the experience of collecting the papers with their children, then putting them into the paper bank! Exercise, family bonding, recycling and fundraising all achieved in just a couple of hours!!
There are a few dates available this year on:
Saturday, 6th September
Saturday, 4th October
Saturday, 1st November
Saturday, 6th December
