1st Buxton Lamas Sea Scout Group NEWSLETTER

May 2008

Cubs
Our abseiling trip to Roughton Mill was very exciting and took courage to go over the edge of the 53ft high tower on a windy evening!
Cubs have also been taking part in fire lighting activities and a wide game on a ‘Pirate Theme’ at Blickling Woods.
We have just returned from our County Cub Camp weekend at the Norfolk Show Ground. The theme of the weekend was the ‘Olympics’. We were sited in the Africa Sub Camp and represented the country of Gambia.

Beavers
The Beavers managed to successfully complete their sponsored walk and it is anticipated that the final amount collected from the fundraising will be in the region of £200 to be donated to the ‘Hut Fund’.
The event enabled 9 Beavers to achieve their Hiking Stage 1 Badge.
7 Beavers have also achieved their Promise Badge. They are all now working towards their Creativity Challenge and Global Challenge Badges.
Two new Beavers have been invested, Jacob Wheal and Aiden Buttle.

Scouts
The Scouts have recently been involved in helping to install the new gates and posts etc at the new scout ground on BALAY Park. This was the final part of ‘Phase One’ in getting the new ground area enclosed and ready for use during the summer months.
Martin and Simon Broom have recently been invested.
17 Scouts will be enjoying a long bank holiday weekend at Decoy Broad taking part in numerous land and water based activities.

Vacancies
As you are all aware, everyone involved in scouting from Leaders, Helpers to Committee Members are all unpaid volunteers, freely giving of their time to provide scouting activities for all our children. Unfortunately, when their children come to an end with scouts we also lose their parents help!
We are currently in this position with our committee when we will have two vacancies to fill at our AGM: Treasurer and Secretary
Please give consideration as to whether you are able to fill either of these positions. We all find our involvement in whatever role rewarding and we have fun too!

Urgent!! Group Treasurer required.
Judy Ellis will finish her role as Treasurer from this year’s AGM on 6th June.
We urgently need somebody to take over the role, preferably before the AGM so that Judy can assist that person until she finishes.
Unfortunately the group cannot function without a Treasurer and we would therefore ask anybody who thinks they could help to contact Judy on (01263) 734912 as soon as possible.
The role of Treasurer can be taken on by any parent, grandparent or friend of the group.
It involves jobs such as banking, recording receipts, making payments and checking the accounts with the bank statements. If you are interested please speak to Judy who will be happy to give you further details.

St. George’s Day Parade
Many thanks to all the parents who took their children to this year’s parade in Cromer. We had good attendance across all sections.

Subscriptions for the period April - June are now due.
Cubs & Scouts £24
Beavers 2nd half-term £12

Deadline for inclusion in next issue is 31st May.
